About BSDunix.ca This site is currently dedicated to my personal experiences with installing and setting up OpenBSD 4.5 Unix, and future upgrades, as a multi-purpose server in my environment. I plan to share my experiences, knowledge and configurations in hopes of helping others in doing the same. I do not claim to be a BSD expert. All information found here is a combination of my personal experience and what I've scraped together from various resources not unlike this one. I have made every effort to reference the sites I have borrowed information from. If anyone should find that I have not given them proper credit, please point it out and I will be happy to do so where applicable. The documentation is based on my personal notes that I made and actively use for implementing the software, features and modules in each section. It is not currently intended to be a complete and detailed tutorial, but rather instructional notes for a user with reasonable computer skills and some existing BSD/Unix experience. Editorial Notes I consider myself a Windows expert, so I struggle along gaining my experience in Unix and Linux, as there are many differences between the two worlds. I also find that it's a very time consuming and often difficult job learning about "Open Source" and "Free" software. Not to offend anyone, but my personal experiences with "Open Source" and "Free" software is frustrating at best. Arguably, in general, there is no one definitive source for any one of these types of projects, they are often poorly documented, and there tends to be as many arrogant individuals as there are helpful ones when it comes to sharing knowledge and advice on these types of projects. And my observation is that many "experts" in the "Open Source" community have the attitude that if I had to learn the hard way, so can you. Not to mention that every Unix and Linux distro and version is different enough that no single resource seems to be able to resolve all problems and questions. All that being said, I have created this site in hopes of sharing what I have learned with others. These comments are simply my experiences and observations. I have no intension of making this site a blog or forum at this time, as I am not interested in having others make public comments on this resource. However, I do welcome any and all polite comments and constructive criticisms on the posted topics and instructions via email. I'll be more than happy to make changes for corrections and suggestions that are relevant to the site. In Conclusion I hope that people will find this site helpful. |
